"Kintsugi"
The story of kintsugi may be the most perfect embodiment of a trauma shattered life.
In Japan, broken pottery is not thrown away, instead it is repaired in a way that honours and highlights the breaking -and more so, the surviving - by highlighting the seams with gold.
Now, the object is dignified, not discarded and it's becomes even more valuable with it's scars.
Kintsugi doesn't hide the damage, it highlights the repair. The imperfections make it beautiful. It carries more of a story. The time consuming process of putting it back together contributes to its value. Surprisingly, after mending, it becomes even more resilient than it was before.
